Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey Everyone!

Is there a way to unroll surface in grasshopper?

Also, another doubt is, when we put together the file for say laser cutting, we give numbering to the final pieces manually [text tag] which sometimes cannot be directly applied onto the surfaces in the 3d model. Is there a way to see the numbering on the model as well? [Not the point list]

Hope I am clear!

Many Thanks

Hi Deepthi -

You can give my definition a try - It's not perfect but it is designed to do what you're asking. Let me know if it works for you, or if you run into any issues with it. Download it here: http://heumanndesigntech.wordpress.com/2010/04/21/unroll-ruled-surf...
Thanks Andrew :)
Is there a definition for surface that are not developpable?
And keep the same length for the border...
That's a tougher problem, and I don't know of any way to do it in gh... You might look at a piece of software called lamina design.
I decided a little while ago to work on that, I'll post results (if there are any, lol). What seems harder is to solve it just with standard components.

:)
