Here's my initial concept that still needs some tweaking - specifically some connection pieces to hold everything together. I'm considering turning this into a 3D printed desk lamp, but that will require new parts that are different from a hanging lamp.
PS: David - I think this should be moved to the Discussion area.
Thank you alot Brik, that was helpful. but as you said i have to work on it, there is a variable twist around the lamp as you see at photo that i have to change. wish me luck i am really slow at definitions..........
Thanks for letting me know my initial design was helpful for you. Usually I am the one getting help here. I should tell you that it was some time ago that Hyungsoo Kim showed how to do the geometry rotations at different elevations. He is surely a Jedi Master of Grasshopper.
For a table lamp I've made some changes shown in the image below: I've added a cylindrical shade, a base to hold an LED puck light, a pipe ring at top, and a half-dome internal reflector to prevent all the light from shooting out the top. As you can see I've still got some work to do on the ribs. I also changed the dimensions so the whole thing is bigger.
For 3D printed lights that use a battery powered LED the thickness of the parts is pretty critical, so I expect I'll have to do a couple of test prints to get things right. That should not be as big an issue for you since you'll be using a wall-powered light source.
