algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey everyone!

I started really use Grasshopper few days ago, lot of my problems find on this forum but not this which i would like to describe now.

I have problem with array brep along curve: open curve created in Rhino, brep created from extruded curve in GH and then it should be arrayed along curve every certain distance - problem occures when brep on end of curve is not vertical (i do not know why...)

what can i do to array brep (to be always vertical) along curve?

It depends how you are creating the planes that are used, it seems like you are simply using the wrong method. Are you using "horizontal frames"?

It really depends on how the planes are created, but there are many ways to have them point upright. You can also use "Adjust Plane" and just use a Z-Vector as the target vector.

If you attach a file, it will be much simpler to find out the reason and a fix ;)

Ah, you are probably using "Curve Array"!? I wouldnt use that.

Create the frames on the curve and simply move the geometry to the frames you created. If you use "horizontal frames", they will always point upright.

Thank you for this respond and solution. Now i see how it works! :)

I was trying to use planes as start point but i was missing one output as "horizontal frames" and i go on wrong way - i created horizontal planes on curve wich was twisted than put points on planes, join them to create curve and then array on curve.. that was long and not that good way to solve it.

I have also one more question - i got this same problem with extrudeing curve along curve - on previous pictures you can see that top part of wall - covering plate (at beginiing "curve bend 2.jpg") - is also twisted at the end ("curve bend.jpg").

could horizontal frames work in that situation too?

They could! Extrude is not the right tool in this case, because it will not "turn" with the curve, but works like a caligraphy pen.

You could use either Sweep1 or just loft a surface, both need sections along the way and you can create those easily using the horizontal frames.
