Trying to use Image Sampler to create gradient contour density

Hi all,

I'm attempting to convert b+w image into a series of contours whose proximity is affected by the brightness value attained from an image sampler. The closest thing I can find is this, but it's creating contours at the value changes, rather than increase contour frequency as the image gets darker. Any advice would be appreciated!
