Trying to inform building height by distance from point or curve.

Hi all,

Ive been trying to create a definition that uses the distance a curve is from a point to establish its extrusion height (basically im trying to create a plot ratio for sites (closed curves) based on the distance a building lies from another building).  The definition works when im using only three or four curves but i am wanting to use many.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached the definition.

Hi Jesse,
I had a look at your definition, and the first thing I thought was this: especially if your curves are all different, I think you'll need to know the minimal distance between these curves, not so much the distance between their area centroids. I think this discussion might help you find these: http://www.grasshopper3d.com/forum/topics/closest-points-several-cu.... Maybe there is a better way for this, but I don't know it yet.
Then you'll have to decide which neighbouring building(s) determin the height of your buildings, and how they do that. Hope this helps a bit.
Thanks mate, thats great.  in the end I realised the problem was that some of my curves weren't closed (even after i'd spent forever making sure they were!!).  Once i closed them all the definition works fine.  The distance between curves would, of course, not required closed curves so this is definitely a more accurate and smoother way of doing it. cheers!
