algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Trying to create a semi random facade with triangles and imagesampler.

Hi everybody,

I have a challenge here. I'm trying to create a facade that would have triangle shaped holes and a lid that's folded out (see the attached photo) and I would like to use the image sampler component as a base for the holes. Any good ideas how to proceed?

Hey,

what do you mean with semi random?Have you tried already somthing? Please post it.

If you haven´t done anything until now I can recommand the Search Grasshopper window on the right side of this page. search for imagesampler.

If it should be completly random... I would take a Srf Grid and select, rotate and scale the triangles with the random function.

So far I've manage to create this.

So as you can see I have the ImageSampler working. The problems I'm facing are...

-missing the folded lids (no idea how to start on that)

-Would like to have triangles with  different edge lenghts

-Wondering if I could use a jitter component or something to mix up the grid a little.

what do you mean with:

-missing the folded lids

In the first pic of the cylinder that I posted the triangle shaped holes have surface that has been folded outside.
here's the image for the imagesampler

Hey,

have a look at this :-)

The Pathmapper helps you to clean your data flow. This keeps the calculation time lower. and avoids problems.

Wau! Thank you so much. I really need to study this pathmapper component.

Now I'm wondering could I create the triangles so that they would have uneven sides. Maybe I should use circles instead and then pick three random points on the circle and then use a line component to crossreference them. I'm trying to test this. The pahtmapper seems to be a very clever tool!

Going forward. So I started to investigate if I could generate triangles inside the circles which the image sampler produces so that I would get the triangles with different sized edges. This definition is almost working. Sometimes it seem so be measuring the wrong angle (still figuring that). Now that I got that ready I started to wonder should it be something to do with the angles. So there is always a generated triangle inside the circle.
