algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi,

I have a problem with timber material and its section properties.

As soon as as link timber material properties to timber section properties error occurs

1. Profile identification from string to be implemented!

Can anyone help I have attached gh definition.

Thanks

Sorry, that's an error message I should look at trying to improve.

Robot doesn't (to my knowledge) have arbitrary profiles that can be created from the API.

But my quick inspection of your def the shape is rectangular.  You can create the property using the standard shape component in Bullant and then it seems to work.

Let me know if this doesn't help or make sense.

Cheers,

Jon

Hi John,

Thank you for your reply.

Does mean that I cannot apply random geometry created earlier in grasshopper, such reciprocal frame in order to analyse in robot?

I am trying to test number of reciprocal frames, they behaviour, etc. assume using timber.

But taking account connection details.

I have attached definition of this random frame.

Can you suggest any other ways?

Jon,

How can I solve the intersection between the beams?

Thanks,

Greg

Hello Jon,

I've also run into a problem with defining timber section properties for ggRobot.

It's a rectangular section (38x89), so I've followed your example from previous for a simple beam (which works great as-is). Eventually I'd like to model CLT (as simple beams w/ rectangular sections).

If I use ggRobotCreate Timber Section Property, this is the error I get:

1. Timber Profile not recognized, please contact Jon!

I've also tried ggRobotCreate Structure Section Property so see if that would let me get around it, but...

1. Steel Material required, use RC Beam or Column or check with Jon for other materials

I'm not sure where my file goes wrong, but any help is much appreciated.

Alex

Neeeever mind, I've worked out what I did wrong.  Shouldn't have tried "filling in" the section with a thickness values (stupid, now that I think about it): it can just be left alone.
