algorithmic modeling for Rhino
We are working to combine the discussions about Rhino/Grasshopper and our development tools into one platform.
This forum will be closed to any posts as of 11/22/2017. The new forum is located at:
https://discourse.mcneel.com/c/grasshopper
Please start to post your questions there now. We hope the new forum engine will make it easier to get your questions answered.
This old forum will be kept around for reference only after 11-22.

I agree here. The groups and community connectivity here is very good. We will be working on ways that we can update the technology.
Using Github for Code, release, documentation. tutorials, web front page etc... is a good start for much of the support and ackground information for plugins. But we still need a common place to see what is going on with all the great plugins that have been developed. As of right now that is here.
You're comparing a thread to a forum landing-page/overview (more equivalent to this page). That said, I also find the standard Discourse layout a bit too padded. Would be sweet if one could set this in personal preferences.
GMail!
O god, you're right.. its like using gmail where you're locked on 'Comfortable' D:
Well Kin (long time to talk > drop a word).
The situation is like attempting to promote a Honda (works always but why bother?) VS a Ducati (works occasionally but why bother?). Problem is that buying a superbike has nothing to do with reliability.
Or, it's like a piece of two day old cheddar vs. a rodeo clown's left nostril.
I always thought that the Ning site needed some cleaning up.. just a little for us to choose quality posts - maybe out of two or three posts that are similar. Importantly the site has always been free fundamental learning on the web for me, that has been written by the users. Can it not continue in this vein?
(The personal home page is also something that makes it a place to meet and share with the people who can help. (a choice of changing a discussion from public to private, maybe with users able to charge users for help in private messaging could be an option?).)
The question I have is will Rhino and Grasshopper become a closed network that no longer helps people aboard without paying? Might this move mean that Rhino and Grasshopper will have to give specific technical support to those that need it, and will, the way I fear this is all going, be exclusive to new comers?
i.e. The new format (both the amalgamated forum and the software alike) does make me want to know if the complexity that Grasshopper brings to Rhino (and power) may make the whole package less accessible to students / new designers, that want a simple 3D modeller? ( I only say this as the simplicity of Rhino is what makes all of this happen, and I love the fact that GH is still places as a bolt in / plugin type of tool), or will it remain as two clearly defined packages that work together?.

Whats important is that fundamentals need to be on the site, with examples as per the Ning. It might be that original problems that were over come with new additions to GH programming might have been the best way to illustrate some of the key aspects and strengths of visual programming.
ciao
I think that's one of my gripes with the current Ning site - finding and browsing examples is terrible. Its just a subthread of the forum, which is terrible. It needs to be a lot more visual and currated and sorted into categories, so we can actually find the examples we need.

I don't see any indication at all that is happening. Where are you getting the impression, that it will not be free in the future?

From how I understand it, Grasshopper is now part of Rhino and I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be. There are tons of parts of Rhino I never use, that doesn't mean they shouldn't be there and if anything it will make it much more likely that a Rhino user will try out GH if it's already there. I don't see a single downside to it, but from all the workshops I have attended I know that it can be a bit of a hassle to get GH up and running, so it being integrated (and installed) already, makes a lot of sense. So how do you think it will make it less accessible? If you make something easier to use (no installation required), but otherwise it stays completely out of the way till you open it - that's the definition of increasing accessibility!
