also let me know if there are any other interesting topics..
Perhaps to get some more replies you can try to post your thesis proposal here, I assume your ideas go further then just the two words? A bit more information makes it easier to discuss..

@ Arend yes dear.. i should have written brief about it.. i am writing what i thought about it..

With the help of new emerging technologies, the world is becoming very fast, mobile and dynamic. In order to response these behaviors of the world; the context shall be changed inclusive of people, their lifestyles and their habitats. Habitats meant to all kind of habitable spaces as like buildings, roads, gardens etc. The Buildings are really what we are concerned with now. The buildings include all kinds of structures as like residential, commercial, educational, administrative etc. Out of these buildings, some of them can be made dynamic and movable rather we can call it as ‘Portable’. The concept of ‘Portable’ buildings helps mainly to make the building accessible for more and more people. The building will move place to place and could interact with people as like organism.

This kind of concept has been stated by ‘Archigram’ in 1965 in the form of ‘Walking city; but it was just a thought which was very difficult to imagine being constructed. The concept of ‘Portable’ building is somewhat similar but it does not contain the City which is moving or walking, but it suggests the building which can be moved from one place to another without any damage.

Not sure if this helps much, but the first thought that comes to mind when someone mentions portable (or walking) building:

I started working at Expedition a little late to work on this competition entry (Hopkins were the Architects) but it would have been nice to work on if it was selected (I think it was a close second). http://www.expedition.uk.com/index.php?pid=32

Its really a good design idea.. i personally liked it...

but what i am thinking is the concept of designing such a Portable building in detail for a specific typology as like Exhibition Pavilion. This pavilion will be constructed with the help of some systematic assembling of modular units in a very short time frame, and can be again decomposed in to modular units again. These units could be carried to any other place and can be reassembled there. The Building units will be comprised of inbuilt structural system management, rain water management, climate responsive management, future expansion management, portable electrification system, protectiveness of inner space, small detailing in it, material specification etc. all allied things.

It will allow the world architecture as well as culture to interact with each other. The interrelation between different kind of architecture as well as cultures can become closer. People will know each other in the context of lifestyle, habitat, culture and technology. It will help the technology growth everywhere.

I like the projects of Expedition.. is it possible for me to apply to work there?

I am about to complete my M.Arch course in Digital Architecture in this June.

Where are you taking that M.Arch in Digital Architecture? What's the program called?

I am taking it from India (Pune) in Sinhgad Institute, the course is named as M.Arch in Computer applications.

I Omkar

I've no idea of "walking architecture", but the exhibition pavilion is a great idea.

I'm quite sure that you now the serpentine gallery pavilion (Kensington Gardens - London).

I think that the history of the serpentine pavilion sounds good for you, this 2010 Pavilion is the 10th commissioned by the Gallery at the world famous architects. When the pavilion is dismissed it was sold, and so still traveling around the world....

Follow the link you can see the 2010 pavilion

Keep me in touch about your progress!!!!

Best

Andrea
