algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi

I am trying to place some letters over a rounded surface, and then I need to extrude this letters from the surface. Something like the attach picture.  What would be the best approach to develop this? Many thanks!

Is the surface freeform, or is it always a flat plate bend into an arc?

The picture you posted seems to have letters cut out of a plate, rather than extruded up from a plate... which is the one you want?

The surface is an arc. I want to cut the letters from the plate, now that I read it again, it is not very clear. Thanks for pointing that out.  

 I also want to use the same letters but instead of cutting them from the plate, they would be solid and on top of the arc, following its curvature. 

The arc makes it a lot easier, as you can use the Bend component to create it from a flat plate. However Grasshopper doesn't have a component for creating text curves, though I seem to remember some plugins do, or maybe it was a script component. Either way, you'll need to find out how to make the text geometry before we can work on the final shape. 

If the text isn't going to change, then maybe it's easiest to just make it by hand, then import the curves from Rhino...

You mean creating the letters manually, cut them from the flat surface in rhino, and then bend the cut surface into an arc with grasshopper?

I was doing something similar but directly in the arc. I created the letters, then did a Boolean on the arc but it takes some time and I have to try with different fonts.

The option you suggest sounds more efficient, how do I bend the flat surface into an arc of a fixed radius?

there is bowerbird plugin with a single line font for engraving etc. maybe it is suitable for your cause
