Yes, very interesting work.
Their packing was based on a dodecagonal quasicrystal:


This brings back memories of the first thing I ever used Rhino for -
I had made this paper model of packed octahedra:

and it wasn't until I modeled it in Rhino that I saw that the packing doesn't work.

I dont suppose anyone knows of the formula for the quasicrystal? I have been modeling it in rhino with the inter-packing of fat and thin rhombs...like a 3D penrose tiling and was hoping/ curious as to whether I could use grasshopper within the process atall. Any suggestions would be great. thanks,
