algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Chances are I just need a hint, but I am not seeing it... I am trying to build a definition that imitates a nib (fountain pen). When the pen moves down the nib is spread and the offset distance larger. In general it is working, but - what is the right way to get (control over) a nice transition from spread nib to "relaxed" nib"?

How about this:
It doesn't deal well with sharp kinks in the base curve, you may have to detect those and automatically split the rail at those kinks.
I also imagine you'd like better control over the thickness at each angle. I recommend not using a slider or equation or graph mapper for that, but to draw a curve in Rhino which acts as a angle -> thickness map.
