Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hopefully the attached pictures explain what I need. This can probably be done by kangaroo but I cannot seem to install kangaroo successfully. Is there an alternative method without using kangaroo.

Many thanks
William

HI David

Thank you for this.  I tried it but maybe I do not understand how the genome component works but how do you choose the closest solution after the solve is finished?  On mine the curve swings away from the circle whilst the slider value changes but it seems to be searching around angles which are too far from the required angle of about -50 degrees.  I am using the latest version of grasshopper.

Regards

William

I set it up for 2 full rotations, so it should find one of the possible solutions in any case. There are always at least two solutions, sometimes more if the curve is very wobbly.

By default Galapagos tries to maximize the fitness. You can click on the plus and minus signs in the Galapagos options to switch between minimize and maximize, but in this case I had to specifically enter the value zero as a target.

If you upload your file I can see why it's not working as expected.

Hi David

Finally got it working. Could not figure out at first where to set the target of zero. Then found accidentally that I set it in the maximum/minimum box.

Many thanks.

William
