Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I would like to create a path similar to the image that is attached to the post. I created a surface using Tsplines however I cannot seem to get the smooth flowing effect that the image captures. The surface I'm trying to create is a series of interconnected elevated walkways with voroni voids at intersections.

This might not be a answer to your question but have you tried working with maya? It provides a good toolset for smooth surfaces and forms like this.

But that is not of any importance if you want to use rhino and grasshopper :)

Hope you find your answer!

Attached is what I get currently when I model a surface and manually trim out a profile on the surface.

I did notice that if I use a mesh surface there are a greater amount of vertices to select allowing for a smoother surface, however when i try to trim the profiles to create the opening I no longer can select the mesh surface.

Have you tried using cage edit on a plane? That should generate a smooth surface..

I did do that it still doesn't have the same feel as the one in the picture, I will be placing a voroni pattern from grasshopper on the surface. I just can't figure out how to create a surface similar to the one in the picture. I tried modeling in rhino and in grasshopper:/

I would try to first model the "stingray" shape with cage edit, then boolean or trim/split out the voronoi pattern (you could make a 2d voronoi pattern in grasshopper and lay over the surface). Then I would probably make the different layers with lofts, like the pathways and such. And then blend them somehow if you need it to be one object.

Ok sweet I will give that a try And post the model :/
Ok got it to work kinda I will post on A few hours

Still trying to figure out how to smoothly join a second surface to this...i.e. a surface that would be a ramp that would bring you up from the ground through the openings :/

I think it looks good! (A bit hard to see on the rendering though ;) )

The blend command don't work? Maybe it won't work so good if the surfaces don't have the same length on the blending edges I don't know..

Ok I was using ambient occulasion I had the setting a little to high :/ thanks for all the help
