algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello all,

My query is related to paper folding.(Disired outcome is image4/5) The final folded surface being a non euclidean form .I do realize that if individual element face is planar ,then the whole form can be easily  unrolled , however when it comes to such forms what is the methodology to flatten on sheets with continuity as seen in the image   .

Also is there any way to simulate such folding?

Thanks

Hi,

All these surfaces can folded if they are rationalised as a mesh that describes the rulings. This can be done with planar quad and triangular faces - have a look at KingKong plugin to see how. You need to use a ruler to literally draw the rulings as you find them on the 3D surface, then scan the 2D image and re-draw in Rhino to convert to a mesh. divide this into mountains, valleys and rulings, and KingKong will do the rest...
