Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

I'm new to grasshopper... I'm working with a group of regular buildings and want to find a way to view the supposed shadows of these buildings created by the sun during certain hours of the afternoon.  Is this possible?

Hi David Rutten,

Could you explain more about these two functions? Are they a plugin from Ladybug? I can't seem to understand what's going on, so any clarification would help.

I need this very thing for some shadow studies - but maybe im getting something wrong but the projection of a shadow outline back onto a freeform surface does not seem (in my mind) to be the same thing as the vector rays of the sun hitting that surface. take an inclined plane parallel with the rays of the sun, the rays would never actually hit that surface and the shadow would consume the whole thing. whereas in the approach you describe they would...what am I missing? is there a quick way to replace the plane with an arbitrary(user-defined) surface?
I figured it out, and spoke too soon. if anyone's interested in the solution I would be happy to share. I used MeshRay and the Delaunay components....
Thanks for your time and help! I projected the shadows onto my surface, but is it possible to make the shadows into a volume vs just an outline?

Shadows are really thin. Not much volume in them. Or did you mean Area?

Sorry, I was being more theoretical-- I attached a photo of what I meant.  Its not really technically correct, but, in this instance, the shadow would make a wedge-shaped volume.  If there is no easy way about this I may search for a different approach...
