Subdividing Planar Surfaces: Equilateral Triangle Grid

Hi guys,

I'm an architecture student who is very new to grasshopper, I would like to create an equilateral triangle grid on an angled/folded/curved surface that i can list points out of to generate triangular modules that i can control parametrically. Ive seen quite abit of triangular grids however they are based on division of a square or a rectangular grid which makes them isosceles triangles.

Help would be appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!! :D

Ive attached an image that shows what i want to achieve.

Hi Adeline,
Last time I tried to find out, it seemed not achievable, have a read through this conversation:

Try and map a triangular grid onto a curved surface, it might give some interesting results, here is how you would map a rectangular grid:

Hi Adeline it should be a similar process to the one on the second link I sent you but with a Hexagonal Grid... try that, otherwise use this script by Luis:

Hi Adeline,

This may be of help.
I think it should be possible to get equilateral triangles on a single curved surface as you would jut need to divide it in rows and then subdivide these rown with the triangles as required. Unfortunately I'm way behing on some other things I need to get on with and haven't got the time modify the ecnlosed definition to test my theory!

Try it yourself applying the scripting component to a ruled surface and let us know..

I'll give it ago as soon as I can.

Cheers

Evert
