Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I’m quite new to Grasshopper, so my excuses should I ask for something trivial.

I would like to make the following animation. An object is ‘attached via a cord’ to a central point and is rotating in two different axes. On the object, a number of other objects are attached. E.g. the speed around the x-axis is 100 rpm and the speed around the z-axis is 10 rpm.

I would like to simulate the orbits that are performed by the different objects attached to the main object. Easiest way of representing it, is a ball with three LEDs attached to it. I would like to simulate the trails left after a number of seconds that I can define via a slider. I’ve seen beautiful colored animations of spirals. So I would like to get close to that.

I know polar coordinates are the best way to go define the points and to connect them later. However, I completely lack experience to get somewhere. I’m e.g. struggling with ‘range’.

Could someone point me to an example that is close to my little project or does someone have a suggestion or example how to do it? I will put further effort in working out the example to my specific needs.

Thank you very much.

Kind regards,

Luc
