Shatter Component- Confused by Results-How does it Work?

I have a closed curve of a given length X and a open curve of length X... when I use the shatter component with the same tValues I was hoping to get curve lengths that matched (except of course on the segment that is split by the beginning and end of the open curve)... Instead I get vales that are close, but not the same.

Both curves were Reparameterized prior to Shattering.

Found this thread but it didn't seem to address my situation as far as I could tell.

I seem to be missing something that may be obvious.  Can anybody shed some light on this for me.

t parameters don't mean length in a direct way. Like the densitiy of UV isolines the distribution of t along the curve depends on control point density.

You can verify this very simple. draw a linear polyline with increasing distance between control points (1,2,3..) and then one line with the same length and only start and end point.

Shatter both with eqal spaced t params.

Thanks so much for answering this... That really clears some things up for me. I had been doing really basic testing of t params, but I had been using a Circle and a straight Line... and apparently the spacing is uniform so that I was getting similar length with the shatter component.

However when I tried going from an Ellipse to a straight line, that when things were getting out of wack.

This brings me to my original Goal which is I want to find a method for using the point of intersections on a closed curve and then be able to "map" those locations to a straight Line.

Besides the Pt order being off... it is clear to see how your explanation is proven here.

Do you have any advice for how to avoid this distortion.  I would like to use the Intersection method of creating points on my original curve, but If I have to I could make pts via Distance or via Length... and this would make the transfer to a straight line easier.
