Use curve closest point component's "t" value.

To elaborate on what went wrong with your original file, you're plugging point data into a number parameter. When you do this, Grasshopper tries to turn the points into numbers by measuring the distance from each point to the origin (0,0,0). This number has nothing to do with your curve parameterisation, and the numbers are probably not even on the curve domain.
