sdk :to be clear

dear fellows

as it is possible to see in this forum one of the most important obstacles to work is to clarify functions and mehods in the libraries of rhino y grasshopper.

instead of the titanic effort of david julio and developers there is no instructions to use functions, then our work using the api is based on guess and test solutions. this suppose ten attemps for every single new method, and probably some magic solutions coming at brink of crisis from david or julio ( thanks a lot ).

so...

why do not fix this at once?

as a suggest :

two or three days with lectures ( no class) touring the most important or most used elements of the api.

function: how to use, admited types, one example, errors.

next method.

quick, clear, simple, just for code users.

what do you think

I think it would be a gargantuan effort to benefit very few people. It would be expensive for those seeking to learn. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a decent website with lots of examples that can be searched for free and added to by anyone over time... wait.

If our SDK is incomprehensible, we're doing something wrong at a deeper level though. With RhinoCommon we were hoping to create something that is both reasonably obvious and well documented.

Can you give me an example of a function that was unclear and how you would have liked it to be presented?

Hi David,

I really like the idea of a website (it could even be https://github.com/mcneel ) Where there are already examples in different languages, also this forum is great in the sense that people sharing the same interests gather and share their knowledge.

I would prefer RMA spending time developing than documenting, obviously up to some extent.

I was actually talking about our Wiki, it has many pages on how to accomplish specific tasks using various SDKs.

I think the new rhinocommon is a huge improvement in readability and ease of use over the nurbs

Also I find the use of visual studio (autocomplete functions) and the .net reflector the best documentation one can get at the moment on the rhinocommon api.

i also think rhino common is extremely well organized and i end up finding 80% of what i am looking for exactly where i expect it to be. and reflecting the grasshopper dll's take care of the other 20%.

I us Revit, Maya, Microstation/GC SDK often and find rhinoCommon the most straight forward and easy to use.

reflector + Object Browser in VS is the best way to learn
