Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi folks.

I've recently recycled a simple script I produced for a waffling exercise, with the attached end result. Accidental finding of a sculpture produced merely with mirroring. I'm sure other members have come across this effect in their time of grasshopping. (Probably common in amateurs like myself!)

I wish to fabricate this down the track as it could make for an interesting lamp shade. The problem I face is the pointless complexity of the end result rather than a complex well developed script. There are far too many intersecting faces, causing HEAVY delays in computation. I would like to clean up the model in a way that will ease the lagging effect on my computer, and perhaps allow me to have better control over the parameters of the end result.

I am currently attempting to use deBrep and break down the model and see where I can go from there however I am not progressing all that well.

I apologise for my inadequate G.H. vocabulary. I hope my question is clear enough for your understanding.

Cheers

Please be ware that the GH file will take a few minutes to load.

Hi,

The "# of division" slider is the one slowing down the solution (because it is also the number of times the loft surface is being mirrored).

I tried lowering it and cleaning up the definition a bit.

It still takes time to compute the final geometry though, i don't think you can avoid this.

the way I would work with this file is lower the "# of division" to something like 4-5, adjust all other parameters and finally raise this slider to the desired value. (or disable the mirror component and enable it again at the end).

Yeah nice. Thanks for dropping by Nikos.

This speeds up work flow significantly!

Appreciate the help.

Hello there

you can also try to rebuild the loft with a value of 4-5 (loft options component rbd input)

if you bake the two lofts, rebuilded and not, you can see there is not any considerable difference.

with the rebuilded loft and 32 division the mirror component is computed in my pc in 9 seconds instead of 41

Hey ng%. Cheers for the response. So far I've managed to start cleaning it quite well. I will try out loc rebuild and check out the difference/
