algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi All!

As a quick question for Chris and Mostapha, and anyone else who knows, I am trying to run a parametric iteration study, but it is going to take a long time for them all to run if it can only run one energy and daylight simulation at a time.

Is there a way to run the idfs created as a group run like what energyplus launcher can do with native energyplus?

Hi Anton, I had the same problem but indeed the E+ was running on the background processes. Before I made this happen though I was failing because

1) I was not changing the Working directory in the "ReRun IDF" component.

2) Even when I changed it  E+ was refusing to run any file that is located outside a local folder placed in 'c:\' (where I also have the E+ installed) even when I was trying to run as an administrator with full access to all of the other local and network folders!

Hi Vinu!

Thanks for sharing the file. I tried using it for multiple files but it didn't work. Any idea why this might happen? I am sharing my files here.

Thanks

Hi Ram,

I will take a look at it tomorrow, I have been running parallel simulation and it works perfectly fine.

Will get back to you tomorrow!

best,

Vinu

Ok Vinu. Thanks!

Can we save the python component for running batch files as a permanent GH component? I have recently started using GH so am not sure if we can.

Regards,

Ram

Ok I got the later part figured. But would be great if you could let me know on my previous query on running batch simulation.

Regards,

Ram

Hi Ram,

after you run the script make sure that you check your task manager of your machine. the E+ will run as a background process so do not expect to see any pop up windows. It might be the case (as it was for me when I first tried) that the script is working and you do not notice, at least this was my problem! Hope it helps

Hi Tasos!

I checked my task manager but E+ does not seem to run in the background. In fact the 'runIt_' boolean comes to True as soon as I hit it. The screen blinks for a few times and that's it. The 'Re-Run IDF' components shows .csv files being generated at their respective locations but are not actually getting generated. i am not sure why is this happening.

Regards,

Ram

Could you send the whole file? How did you create your idf file? The energy plus is being called but its not running the simulation. Before running the parallel simulation did you check whether the energy plus is running without errors(check it with one idf)?

Mostapha might know more!

Hi Vinu!

Thanks for the pointers. yes, there was some problem with the algorithm. Although fairly simple, it was not running the E+ simulation. I re-made it and now it is fine. I am able to run batch simulations.

Cheers!

Ram
