algorithmic modeling for Rhino
I used a grasshopper script to create the radially growing diagrid. Now, I'm trying to develop the 3d qualities of this model where it has a spiral growth (see model 3d).
What I essentially am trying to do is mimic the idea of spiral staircase. Only I want to import my own geometries as the "steps." So.. All that is needed is one spine (post of spiral stairway) and it's attached geometry (treads on staircase). I just need a way to rotate a shape vertically and to be able to change it's diameter both at the top and bottom so that the geometry (treads) change with it.
I know it's a rather difficult task! Been trying to get a simplified version to work all weekend. Any tips would be great!

I would love to help, but i can't quite grasp your wishes.
I can see the diagrid in your image, perhaps you can attach your grasshopper file also?
And then what is it that you want to do exactly?
Scale and move the separate pieces of that diagrid to that they form a rising spiral staircase?
or do you want to repeat that whole diagrid shape and scale it up the "spine"?
interesting start anyway...
Funny Jen, your icon image also looks _very_ familiar. I am working very much with the pinecone shape. The interwoven spirals that are present in the pine cone are amazing.... i am looking at your model now:
1) do you have any gh scripts yet? you said you used a gh model to make the 2d diagrid right?
2) does Chris's script help you enough or are you missing some pieces?
If I understand what you want now, then I guess you just need to select/group the correct sets of 3 in your diagrid... then you can offset them (to make the smaller base shapes) and then loft from bottom to top.
attached a quick gh that depends on your 3dm for the curves
cheers
