Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear EVERYBODY:

I have a little treat for you,

I am trying to create stripes of panels on a surface, I want to be able to control the width and rotation of the stripes, but the curves has to be maintained along the original srf at all time..

I have managed to create the curves along the surface and am now able to control the width (actually I extended the surface both ways, and what's outside of the original surface I will just trim in the end.. )

But I have been struggling with the rotation!

Does anybody out there know how to achieve this?

I am SUPER THANKFUL for help or hints of any kind, my boss want's to see results tomorrow:S

I have attached a rhino file with a surface and the gh that I have so far..

I'm thinking that it might involve some shifting in the lists, or offset along srf?????

Looking forward to hearing from you:)

/Sophia

hy sophia,

I have done something similar a wile ago. the clue is to rotate the UV and not the XYZ coordinates. because they are always on the srf. unfortunaly have to leave now and cant give more explanations. but try this..

..and good luck with your boss:)

yours truly, chris

I'm out the door also.  Use Map to Surface and rotate the uv space.

Hi Christian and Chris! Thank you for your help:)

Question to christian, what coordinate should I write in the z outlet on the ptXYZ component?

I think it will work well once I figured out what it should say, trying to experiment with it now, since I'm self taught in this the lists and how this really works are still a mystery to me sometimes..

I'll just keep on experimenting with this for now...

Byyyeeeee!!!

Here is my def. It needs a planar surface as in your example.

But you could alter this to work with any form. Leave out the Plane Decomp. Build a rotatable vector for the N input on the Contour component.

Thanks Jonah!

Where can I download the contour component? Do I need a newer version? I have 0.8 right now..

Christian!

Dont bother, I figured it out and it's PERFECT!!:D

just came back..

glad to hear!

Hi again Jonah, I'm actually gonna try your way now with the contour component, since I have a doubly curved surface that nothing has worked on yet, but I'm not sure what you mean by rotatable vector.. (?)

Sophia,

Replace the plane decomp with a Z unit vector or another vector that makes sense for your form.

I'm on my Mac or I would post a def.
