algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi, 

I am working on a simple origami folding pattern; however, when it is activated, it rotates in spaces as well as folds. The folding is find, but I need it to stay still. I have tried adding anchor points, but then kangaroo fails.

Hello Erik,

Which points are you trying to anchor?

Generally for rigid origami only one face can be fixed.

Alternatively for some symmetric arrangements you can use AnchorXYZ to constrain some points in only one direction

Hi Daniel, 

Thank you for your prompt reply. I am attempting to constrain the points along an XZ plane, but hopefully with regards to a center point.  I believe I would only be able to anchor one corner point as all the points shift with the automation. That's why I think I can only constrain the points to a plane. In the end it is for an automated sunshade where the folded shapes will transform around a center point.

Ah - AnchorXYZ has to go into the Force objects input, not AnchorPoints. 

I realize this is confusing - it was an unfortunate side effect of the order some features were developed in.

For future versions I think it will be possible to have a more consistent treatment of all force/constraint inputs.

Thank you, unfortunately the AnchorXYZ works, but inhibits folding. Without it, the folding works, but the main issue is that the object rotates about the Y axis. I also cannot anchor an end point as that stops the process. 

Do you happen to have a solution to allow the folding, but constrain the rotation?

To use AnchorXYZ you do have to select which axes to constrain (for example, to allow movement in the XY plane, set X and Y to false but Z to true), as in the attached example.

Also, I do have a fix on the way for this small spurious rotational acceleration that can occur with the hinge force.
