Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

I am trying to install Grasshopper on Rhino 5.  I am getting the error message "failed to initialize."

Grasshopper works with Rhino 4 on same computer.

System:

- Sony Vaio VPCEB 36GM

- Windows 7

- 64 Bit Operating System

Have latest version of Grasshopper (0.8.0066.)

Tried downloading microsoft updates on download page (to no avail).

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Sally,

is the message printed in the command-line or is there an error window? Can you run the TestDotNetMessages command, restart Rhino and then try to load Grasshopper again? Hopefully there will be more information written to the command line next time around that might help us pin-point the problem.

Hi David or anyone - I have Gh working in rhino 4 on my computer, and also have rhino 5.0 beta (64-bit) and i cannot get grasshopper to download into the Rhino 5 plug-ins folder. there is no place for me to tell it where to install (it automatically chooses in the install wizard) and it always chooses rhino/4.0/....  when i type grasshopper into rhino 5.0, it says "unknown command grasshopper".

what's the trick for getting Gh into Rhino 5.0, PC platform (on  a bootcamped Macbookpro)...?

Thanks!

Christina

actually, i figured it out after reading the other long thread from 2010 about these problems. i was able to load it into rhino 5.0 using pluginmanager, but then going the my harddrive, programs (86...), rhino 4.0, plugins, and uploading it from there. I also copied the rhino4.0 plugins folder using the same pathway just from the finder (not through rhino and pluginmanager), into the program folder for rhino 5.0, removing the rh_ folder for 32 bit, and lo and behold, it all worked!

Glad you figured it out. Pointing Rhino5 towards the GrasshopperPlugin.rhp file via the PluginManager usually works. You can also drag+drop the GrasshopperPlugin.rhp file into a Rhino5 viewport to load it.
