algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey.
I was always using the script from Giulio's website to render animation. As it's obsolete for some time and it doesn't seem to work with newest versions of GH, I decided to rewrite it.
It's basically the same as the original. I just added the possibility to bake to a specific layer so that v-ray materials can be used.
Quite useful with camera control plugin.
The example file attached.
Best,
J.

Thanks!
I've put together a file with your (and Giulio's) great component, along with Damien Alomar's camera control, all with keyframe capability thanks to Carson Smuts's obviously awesome Centipede. I also updated the c# script to grasshopper v9 and updated the other v8 pieces.
I also added a toggle to flip between rendering, and just a preview of the sequence. Forgive the clunkyness of the definition, I am an avowed amateur.
I started doing this to help a graduate architecture class animate their grasshopper work--and decided it would be interesting to see how much of the animation + rendering production could be kept "in house" with grasshopper. Also, even though tweening and smoothing are going to be weaker in GH compared to 3Dsmax, I like the idea of every parameter still being under your finger in GH while you animate.
Hi J,
This is really great. I'm using 9.0076. For some reason when I insert a material name that exists in the rhino model already as an item into the material list for the GP's "renderanimation" component, vray doesn't render the object from grasshopper. If i leave the list empty vray will render it no problem. Do I have to put the material name in parentheses, or include a "." at the beginning of the material name?
Thanks again,
Ryan
Hello world! I have tried to use the renderAnimation definition by Giulio Piacentino, and the ANIMATOR JJ.gh... (from Joshua Jordan) IN RHINO 5 WIP with the GRASSHOPPER VERSION 09.0014 and it dosen't work. The C# components are red... with error messages both.
Does any body know how to uptdate it???
Hi. This seems like a great tool- is there a thread or place on Giulio's website that explains how to integrate it with a definition. Basically, I have a slider that I want to animate (to a render instead of screen shot) and the geometry that I want to bake-render-delete repeat. I can't quite get there....
I'm using the animation material names file as a starting point.
Which port do I connect the slider to? I tried connecting the slider to "current", my geo to "Geometry" and changing nothing else but the slider parameter does not animate (my slider is for the size of the circle, but the material was aminated somehow instead) I did get frames in the renderTest after resetting the toggle.
It seems like there is a division component connected to an eval component that goes into the geometry? is that necessary?
Attached is a simplified file I made to figure this out (my actual geometry definition is more complicated). No rhino file required I just set one point.

hi, I was trying to use this tool to animate light vector, I couldnt find in the scene animation a slider to animate, I guess it's possible I just dont know how, I am attaching a screenshot of the light vector part
Hi there! Thanks a lot to Jacek and Giulio for this interesting tool. I've tried to play a little bit with it in combination with Vray, and those saved images are quite strange. It seems like it is saving unfinished renders or even nothing and it is skipping loads of steps. For example I've tried to run Jaceks default definition in 200steps. Vray frame buffer appeared but doesn't finished complete render and than disappeared. Rhino command line was than announcing saving of steps, but it saved only some of those 200 and in random like way 0,10,17,19,24. Those were saved in early stage of rendering.... and from 167 it saved everything and correctly. Do you have any ideas what my problem could be?
I am using V-Ray + Rhino 5 + GH Build. 0.9.0064
Thanks, Tadeas
i had the same problem.
you just have to go to vray options-global switches-misc and enable the OPTION batch render.
hi all!
I got this to work yesterday, but now I can't seem to reproduce my results. I keep getting this error
{0}
0. error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (line: 138)
any help I can get would be very appreciated!

Hello,
I was checking out the sample file from JJ, and I believe the C# component has a small error and thus is not resetting properly. For anyone who is having this problem, I've rewritten the script with Python, attached below. Should solve the problem. I thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into the same problem.
Hi Jacek, Giulio,
Thanks for this animation script. When trying to run this script in latest GH and Rhino 5, all i get is blank png files. Does this script work work the default Rhino renderer, or does it only do so with commercial render plugin's (as other replies mention Maxwell, Vray). Apologies for adding a reply to this 3 year old post fro, but it seems there still is no proper alternative available to render/export an animation.
Welcome to
Grasshopper
