algorithmic modeling for Rhino

relaxing_pendulum.gh

Hi all,

i am trying to get this system to be hanged from the upper ring, so the lower one would have to go to a mass balance position without changing its geometry. i think its a very simple scheme, but seems dificult to achieve.

any idea? have already try a lot of ways...

Is the lower circle some kind of rigid ring, suspended only by the fabric?

Something like this?

If so, I imagine the weight of the fabric is negligible compared to the weight of the ring, in which case the important thing would be just to ensure that the centre of mass of the ring is below the points of support.

exactly this.

ok, the center of mass is below the upper ring, so, in wich way could i achieve to get a pendulum effect, besides the relaxation, in order to have the system in balance?

Here's my quick attempt to recreate the Marsyas installation :)

The end rings are fixed and the middle one is hanging.

I gave it different warp/weft stiffness to get somewhere close to the shape, but I believe the real installation actually also varies the prestress in different regions in order to control the form.
