algorithmic modeling for Rhino
I am interested in linking qr codes to grasshopper so that I could generate qr codes that link to a configuration of a geometry or link to one element in an assembly, then print those qr codes so that if someone scans the code with a device it pulls up that configuration or highlights the element in the assembly in the rhino gh environment. I don't even know how to begin... any advice or ideas are appreciated! THANKS ethan

Im thinking if no current solution exists that I need to learn how to embed data into a qr code that can be read by any cell phone qr app and push this data into an excel format that is imported to drive grasshopper parameters...
It would be best if the qr code could be generated by grasshopper as well... So that the original model creates its own codes that can then be printed and rescanned to call up the configuration...
just thinking out loud I guess...
Well, I think ...
The first thing you have to do is searching how to generate qr code in VB or C #. Then re-edit to Gh. Then you need an app for the reader device that translates data, and pass that data to gh.
But have you thought about whether it's really useful the qr? What devices you want to interact? Smartphones and tablets? these involve pass the data back to a computer to work with that data.
What did you have in mind? Something like having several QRimages on the canvas to change the parameter settings by choosing one? That can be done without QR, easily with stream filter and gate components.
Thanks for your reply. My idea is to have parts that I fabricate in metal labelled with the qr code so that when an assembler has to put them together they can scan a qr sticker on the metal item with a phone and the individual part is highlighted in an assembly on a computer screen.
Hmm, well then you consider efficient do it in gh? Maybe the work will take to do it in Gh is much higher than generate qr code with online applications, which you addressed to a URL and there you can manage images, instructions, details for the manufacturer.
Note that your method requires that the manufacturer should have rhino+Gh+Plugin to interact with qr. In this case, it would be simpler to put a number to each item of metal and the manufacturer select the appropriate item/index on the canvas to display the particular piece, I think ...
Another way would be to use modelo.io and put each piece of metal in a different color or layer.
I hope that helps.
I do consider it efficient to do in gh because there are advanced ideas I have for this workflow like controlling a welding jig to adjust to various angles based on a gh model. thanks for your feedback.
Hi,
did you find a way to get QR codes into grasshopper via webcam or image?
