Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey there,

What I want to do is create a precedence for my Architecture project, in which I am having some trouble. To help with explaining this precedence, I have come up with a simple example which I want to model in Grasshopper.

The idea is that there is a square boundary (can be invisible) that one column gets added to every week, and the columns are randomly placed. Making different movement patterns through the space, as well as creating habitation spaces over time. Although the columns cannot move once they have been initially been generated. This is because one of the ideas of this precedence is that the historical elements remain to effect the future use of the space.

So, what I want to create is a parametrically designed example that represents this. I need to create columns one at a time, and have them placed randomly. It would also be a nice touch if I could randomise the height of the columns that are randomly placed too. But like the placement they need to remain the same height and position once the next randomly placed column is produced.

ANY help will be much appreciated :)

Thanks a lot

Matthew

Thanks you so much! This is perfect!! I think I can go from here

Thanks bud

Matthew

Actually, I am now having trouble making the column another shape.

I would like the column to be an H beam but I am a weeee bit stuck. I have tried to play around, but could not find a component that lets me use the curve drawn on Rhino with the base planes created in Grasshopper.

Thanks

Matthew

Hei matthew,

the file should now be doing what you were looking for.

Thanks a lot Tudor and Danny! Now I'm going to study this and understand what you've done.

Thanks so much :)

I've decided to come back to this script and would like some ideas and help please.

What I want to achieve is less randomness. I want to be able to have some control on the position of the next column that is placed, so that the placement of one column has an effect onto the placement of the next.

This is to help me explain how the remnants of the forms left behind (columns placed in the previous weeks), effect the placement (and even form perhaps) of the next column that is placed.

Any ideas or help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Matthew

Has anyone got any thoughts? Or an example of something similar that I am trying to do?

How would I go about having more control over the placement of the upcomming columns?

Thanks
