Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi !

I'm totally new on grasshopper and i can't find the solution to my problem. It might be simple but i spend hours on it without getting the good result.

Here is what i want to do:

Rectangulars louvers that each ones rotate along an axis while the wind blow on it.

I only succeed in rotating all my louvers but i don't know how can i select only the one i want to rotate (for example all louvers in a select circle are openend and the other one are closed).

I also have to do an array with that but i still don't know if i'm on the good way.

After that i would to do a "gradient angle of opening" (sorry for my bad english !): the ones on the centre of that selection are totally opened, the ones on the edge are halfway opened and the ones outside are closed.

Again sorry for my bad english and i just started grasshopper and watched video tutorials on that website.

Thanks

Hello Pasteur,

Try out this definition. If I understand correctly this should be what you're looking for. Everything inside the circle is tested for its distance from the center of the circle, then assigned a rotation angle from 0-90 degrees, with the louvers closest to the center being the highest.

Everything outside the circle remains flat.

Let me know if you have any questions. The file I made is a little big.

Hello,

Wow thanks a lot it seems to be exactly what i need ! Thank you very much !

But do i need to start with my previous rhino file ? Or do a new one ?

You'll have to adapt this to work with your original file. I couldn't work with it because the file kept crashing my computer.

You can try taking my definition and orienting it to your building, then array it around the building.

Hi,

Sorry, i tried your file but i don't really understand it. Do i have to start from a block in rhino ( one louver ). What do i need to link to grasshopper ?

Is it grasshopper that generate the louver or i build it in rhino and then i link the geometry in grasshopper ?

Thx

OK i tried something but i can't get all the definition.

Here i success in rotating some louvers but there is no gradient in the rotation.

All the top louvers have the same rotation. How can i have only the ones on the centre openend. I attached a reference to illustrate the effect i'im trying to get.

maybe you need to refer to this example http://formularch.blogspot.jp/2012/11/gh-surface-ribbons.html

Thanks Jacky Cheung, from there can i divide those curve to have louvers ? Because i need flat separated elements.

Pasteur,

See attached.

Merci Nick ! Tout est expliqué en français ! :) La je m'y retrouve !

Ah, alright try this out

Thank you very much,

I didn't have the time to try it yet ... But it seems to be exactly what i need

Thanks

I tried to modify my louvers, i had to change the size of panels, but unfortunatly i'm trying to change spaces between louvers but without success ... all louvers keep staying straddle on both sides.

I'm sorry for my ignorance :(
