algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hey, I am making a def that makes a hexagon structure for a surface, but I am having problems moving some of my pieces to make them notch into my other parts.

 I had planned to move "part A", subtract it from "part B", then subtract the original "part A" from the subtracted "part B" to give me two pieces that are notched into each other.

 

Anyways, I need some help with my move (highlighted in red).  The data is giving me trouble on every piece.  All of the parts were made the same way, but each one wants me to manipulate the data a different way... I can't understand it.  I have had to flatten different components to make some of the moves work. Please take a look at it.  Any input would be greatly appreciated!!  I have been working on this too long to let it fall apart now.

Well, I got the move to work (mainly by flattening everything in different patterns until it worked) so I still cant figure out why I have to deal with the flow of data for each move differently.  It just doesn't make sense.
