QUESTION AND HELP! pattern to surface

this might be a beginner question that i just cant seem to figure out!

i have a pattern on rhino that is repeatable and i need to apply it to a organic shape (but a flat surface)

in a way that the pattern distorts when "squished" into onto the surface.

when i flow along srf, it distorts it to the bounding box of the srf, not its edges.

please let me know if there is a way that i can do this.
