algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hello, everyone,
I'm using Karamba to construct a simplied model consisted of beams with infinite flexural stiffness. So, my question is: the "LineToElement" is Euler beam or Timoshenko beam? Is it capable of considering shear deformation of line elements?
Thank you
Xiao

Hello Xiao,
the beam elements in Karamba3D are shear deformable according to the Timoshenko beam-theory.
Best,
Clemens
Hello, Clemens. Thank you so much for your reply. So if I want to consider a beam element with no shear deformation, I just need to set the "G" parameter in "Material Properties" components to infinite, right?
Hello Lucas,
in Karamba3D 1.3.0 you can set the transverse shear modulus G3 of a material to a large value (e.g. 1E10) in order to avoid shear deformations.
Alternatively set the shear areas Az and Ay of the beam cross section to a large value via the 'Modify Cross Section'-component. The 'Ay' and 'Az' inputs can be found in the sub-menu 'Deformation'.
Best,
Clemens
