Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Dear all,

I looking for a way to mesh a volume (let's say a cube 1x1x1m) and get all meshed components in a list (lets say little cubes of 1x1x1cm). Of course I am not interested in primitive geometries like cubes. I intend to continue with the "little cubes" in finite element analysis.

I thought of using some external mesh generating software, but then importing the meshed geometry back into rhino, I guess it is going to be unified or re-meshed or whatever.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

hmm ...

... if we forget "some" MIA stuff (and "some" invalid (but why??)) meshes ... this "works"(?): I mean it could work, he he.

back to the drawing board.

It sounds like you are looking for volumetric meshing, and more specifically hexahedral meshes. Searching for these terms will turn up lots of results.

For instance:

Daniel,

A quick Q: are you aware for "omissions" when splitting a mesh against an enumerable collection of (planar) meshes? Kinda like this (the left top "protrusion" is MIA):

the odd thing is that this doesn't happen in some occasions (shown a differently oriented Box that defines the "slice" Planes/Planar Meshes):

best, Peter

Appears to me like a Rhino bug that one: Using solely GH components

the test mesh:

the missing left top "piece":

On the other hand when the "skin" is constantly convex meaning that this ... m.ExplodeAtUnweldedEdges() ... is not called on duty > no omissions of any kind occur:

Hi Peter

I have a mesh that i wanna send to 3d printing , the problem is that my mesh is too big for the 3d printing , i was having a look to your tutorial and i am not able to split  it

thanks
