Quad / Tri surface to meshface

Another potentially simple question.

I am trying to convert trimmed surfaces constructed from either 3 points or 4 points to a meshface. Then combining these meshfaces into a mesh. But somehow, because some of these quads have two colinear edges, they mess up the mesh join component.

I need the extra point to be there to ensure compatibility when simulating using Kangaroo, for example.
