Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Greeting to all Grasshopper users. This is my new first experience with Grasshopper so accept my apologies for newbie questions. I have one project of lamp design and it requires a parametric approach. It will be a paper cylinder with some smooth edges and I want to choose the size ands scale of its modules. At last I want to use Kangaroo for some folding effects but the main problem now is to make a parametric framework. To understand the basics of Grasshopper I decided to create a simple formation. I don't ask to do all my job. Just a little advice and conversation.

I want to project this points on the cylinder. As they will be projected I would like to connect them with lines and make triangle planes. As you can see the radius of cylinder is the length between the highest points and the height of the cylinder - the lenght between the highest and the lowest points. In future I want to extend this group of points in rows and columns so that cylinder's radius and height will recalculate

I think that my approach is really weird and foolish and I got a courage and Sign up there.

Thanks for your attention

That's what I want to get

Hi.

Not sure this is what you want, but check this if you want. You'll need "Weaverbird" plugin.

Thanks for the reply! It gives me some ideas.

Well, my Grasshopper Passions continues... I made a simulation of one side of my lamp.

You can try it in attached file (Kangaroo and Kangaroo 2 required)

And now my task is to project it on my polygon extrusion.

To make it 3d - the X (column) value starts with 3.

As you can see I have three sets I need to project on planes of my extrusion: set of points to fold, set of points to anchor and set of lines between them.

I suppose to project these sets on each plane and then reconnect Kangaroo's forces and anchors. But the main problem is how to make this set projected...

I tried to rotate these sets but I hope there is a simple solution for it

Well. I handle it.

If somebody want to see the result I attached the file.

It folds the shape with different amount of triangles in X and Y direction

Kangaroo, Kangaroo 2 and Weaverbird required
