Problems with Downloading .osm file

Hello everyone,

i already have a thread in the german osm Forum. (https://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=60422)

But atm i don't find a solution. If i download .osm files from openstreetmap.org, i dont get much Information about heights. New York is the only City which i can download nearly 3D. Paris, Berlin, Munich, Vancouver and many more have no heights when I download them. 

But on http://demo.f4map.com/#lat=52.5167104&lon=13.3953631&zoom=17 for example, they are 3D. So the Information should be available. 

F4map is based on osm. So i should be able to download the same Information from openstreetmap.orh

Alternatively I tried to donwload the files somewhere else. But when I download .osm files from http://download.geofabrik.de/europe/france.html the files are to big and crash rhino. Is there an easy way to "cut" them into smaller pieces?

I hope somebody has a good idea or knows what im doing wrong.
