algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi !
I'm so new to grasshopper and this forum as well ! i searched so much in here but still couldn't find the answer.
i'm trying to model a 3D voronoi inspired by Michael Kukla Works ( I'll add a photo )
I tried so many different ways but none worked !
i need 3 layers, each layer has a different number of points, so there will be different size of holes. ( I think I've reached this point )
I used a pop2d -> 2D Voronoi -> Scaled ( dist from curve )
but I want all three layers connected to each other, i tried also 3D Voronoi and the Voronax Plugin and none worked !
I'm so confused :D

I think 3d voronoi would lend itself very nicely to the first image you posted, where the point data you input is arranged in a sort of layered fashion (imagine 3 pieces of paper each with points distributed on them, and there being 1-2 cm of space between each sheet of paper).
The second image looks like it could be easily done by doing 2 layers of 2d voronoi where the layers are slightly concave to one another, and each voronoi layer is mapped onto each surface using map to Surface. Think of a very flat pillow, where the top of the pillow gets one 2d voronoi, and the bottom gets the other.

I had the same approach for the papers with 3 list of points but i cant understand how i should give the input data to the 3D voronoi component !
the best result i could get was so so far from what i really wanted to do !
I would try creating 3 rectangular surfaces, one on top of the other, then use the populate 2d component to put points on each. Then merge the points and just plug them all into the voronoi 3d component.
Then the challenge is taking the cells that you get from it and making them all smooth and sexy. Which is something I would probably look into weaverbird or exoskeleton for.
so i did the same as you said but the result i could get is something like this, i think the difference is that i need the edge of each 2D cell get connected to the other on the other surface !
in this approach the logic of the 3D Voronoi is the same but the points are made and given to the component and it gives the same output with different point of numbers ! :(

sorry im new to grasshopper so i don't totally know if i had done right with your file !
i dont know what i should set for the surface ( to offset ) and curve ( for curve CP ) components.
the result i could get is somehow similar to yours but the voronoi is only made for the outer surfaces of my berp ( box ).
hey, its the brep cure intersection component when i remember well, dont have rhino atm, just skip this component and you should get a result closer ro your pic. for the surface you set the bbox(or srf) to get the 3 layered structure, like in your pic.
for the cr closest point hae a look at the atractor things.
monday i can upload your a changed file, but you learn more tring it by yourself.
