algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hi guys,
I've started learning this wonderful Rhino's plug-in few weeks ago (trying to learn by myself from the on-line resources on this site and all around the web) but now I'm stuck trying to (understand :-P) solve the tutorial exercise shown at page 79 of the GrassHopper Primer Second Edition (awesome book, in my opinion).
I follow every single instruction to the letter up to the last few sentences.
It says:
• Right-click on the Morph Box component and set the data matching algorithm
to Cross Reference
• Right-click on the Surface Box component and turn the 'Preview' off
But I don't know where to find the "data algorithm option"! ...so I don't know how to set the algorithm to Cross Reference...
I've fount a component called Cross Reference but I don't think it's the same, isn't it?
Except that I think I've done everything right, but if you want I can sand you some screenshot (maybe it'll help you understand where I'm wrong).
Thanx in advance
See you

Hi Emanuele -
Glad to hear you're jumping into grasshopper! Since the release of the primer, there have been a lot of significant changes to how grasshopper works, so you'll probably find as you go through the different examples several instances where exactly this sort of thing happens.
In this case, my guess is you'll find that the cross reference component should work fine...basically data matching used to be managed within each component (shortest list, longest list, cross reference) but now these themselves are individual components.
Usually you can also find plenty of good answers by posting questions here. I'd highly recommend that you also attach any rhino and gh files that you're working with. It makes it easier for people to get at your problem and propose solutions.
Thanks for the fast reply David!
Here you have a screenshot of my little exercise.
I've just read the FAQ thread about the Cross Reference tool but actually I don't know how to use it inside the exercise.
I'd appreciate an advice so much :-)
I'll try to be more specific.
The error I get is on the last component I put: the Box Morph
It says: "Error: Cannot Morph From a Degenerate Box"
I attach the working files.
Thanx
Ok guys, problem solved!
I've read other (awesomely) interesting discussions about Cross Reference component and googling the error message I got I've figured out the solution: it was just about the zero thickness of the bounding box!
I've adjusted it making the mullion/transom structure just a bit thick and...here it is the perfect paneling for the tower!
Hope this discussion'll help some other newbie like me.
See you
Emanuele
P.S.
I attach the correct files
Welcome to
