algorithmic modeling for Rhino
Hey Guys,
I'm trying to figure out how to populate a surface with triangular panels. I found some paneling definitions online that populate a surface with square panels but I haven't seen any that can populate triangular geometry on any surface.
Attached is a definition I have been working on thats based on several definitions I found online. so far the definition divides a surface into triangles but when I try to populate it with any triangular geometry its warps the geometry excessively.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hey Matt,
I did see this definition and used some of it but the geometry still gets warped strangely. I think the problem is that the boxmorph sees the triangle as a square with one corner being the midpoint of one of the sides f the triangle.
Can you give some more information perhaps? An image or sketch of the result that you're after? And an image of the problem that the existing definition is giving you?
Matt.
What about the triangles along the edges that are different from the internal ones?

Did you ever find a solution to get this? I am looking for something similar too, thanks!
i would also like to know an approach how to populate a spherical surface with equilateral triangles.
Like so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Icosahedron
Or maybe so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrahedron
there's no other way to populate a sphere with equilateral triangles as far as I know.

thanks, David,
i tested an inhouse algorithm on a partial spherical surface and so far i see there are no problems. of course the problem will be to "wrap" the sphere with equlateral triangles. but that is, in my case, not necessary.
maybe it could be a solution for some double curved surfaces to define a tolerance for the length of the traingles.
