Pipeline Component Volatile Data Request

After using Horster components for selecting geometry according to type, layer, and so on...  I stumbled upon the pipeline component, which does the same thing minus having to use the timer component; however, the layer selection is persistent.  It would be great if volatile string inputs could be implemented similar to Horster.

Along these same lines, has anyone developed a version of the "Is geometry selected" Firefly component that doesn't require a timer component?  I'm not sure how to access the proper event listeners to get something like this to work (but considering the pipeline component, it should be possible).
