Path in Function Component Output

I'm probably getting totally the wrong picture here, but for some reason the Function component seems a really bad team player when it comes to maintaining paths! Or is there something I'm missing?

As a side note, this only happens when a single item with a branch length of 1 is at the input (check pic 2).
