Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello everybody, I'm new using grasshopper and I doing a research about filling spaces with polyhedras. Basicly I'm using a BISYMMETRIC HENDECAHEDRON for this project. firstly I was solving joint probles with the shapes using fingers system on wood.

I want to build a structure like RESEARCH PAVILION AT UNIVERSITY OF STUTTGART, my idea is to take this geometri and build a space.

I have already the prototype of the geometry joined with fingers system, so my question is, how i can join this geometries face by face on grasshopper, how can I scale them without brake the way how they join.

If I fill a room with this geometries, how can i put them together and then take a kind of corridor or space from them.

Thanks.......

I'm not sure if you've tried (or are interested in trying) the polygon packing routines in StructDrawRhino (http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads ).  I've started implementing the two polygons you've mentioned on the forum, it's taking a bit longer because it's the first "non-orthogonal" propagation I've added but I'm pretty close and expect I will have it working within a day or two.  You might like to get started with testing with other tessellations in the interim.  There are options for generating the cells that fill or intersect with target surfaces etc.

Thanks for your opinion, but really I want to work with this geometry BISYMMETRIC HENDECAHEDRON, because I solve join problems. so do you know any way in grasshopper to build up something wit this geometry, because te point is how can I join each by each from their faces.

As I said above, I have pretty much coded up Bisymmetric hendacahedron, but I still need to resolve the propagation (transformations) of it.  Should be available tomorrow I hope.

ok, thanks..... if you dont mind could you help me with that? thanks a lot

Please have patience with this (it can take 5 or 10 minutes to compute if you are generating the intersecting polygons depending on the size refinement) but I did get Bisymmetric hendecahedron poly packing into StructDrawRhino today (http://www.geometrygym.com/downloads )  I will try to enable sphenoid henecahedron packing working as quickly as I can if it's also of interest.

Ey it is ok, thanks a lot. I will try with this now..... and for the sphenoid i'm also intesrested. thanks

sorry I can't use the plug in.....

I am trying to figure out a problem about packing. I´m working with polyhedra (bisymmetric hendecahedra) to fill up a room with this geometries and then cross a line in this room and cut the geometries which intercept the line.
I have done some work on grasshopper about the line and the points, is like points attractors, the geometries beginning to grow from the x distance between the points of the line and their center point.
So, the problem here is once the geometries start to grow, they dont have any rule, so is a mess there and they dont pack together. COULD somebody help me with that?

Jon and I tryed to use the plug in but I couldnt....... I want to pack the polyhedras as is in the picture but I need some rules, the only thing wich I have is the distance points and points which are the geometries.
Is any way to do it on grasshopper?

I think the plugin should work, else you are going to have to come up with the transformations and rotations as I coded into the algorithm.  Can you post the grasshopper definition that you have progressed?  I can help you a lot faster that way.

Or can't you use the plugin for other reasons?

I want to use your plug in but, has been impossible, when I choose any geometry from your plug, immediately ask me for authenticity
Or something like that and I can't use it, I have tried  in another computer and was the same problem.
If u want I can upload my file with the work that I have done until today.
I would like to know how get the rules or if is necessary scripting........
Thanks john and I'll upload the file

Hi Andres,

I work full time on the plugin development, I'm not employed by RMA so I do rely on licensing to commercial users to sustain this, thus the licensing protection.  I don't charge students, and regardless I offer a month evaluation for free.  If you run rhino command sdrZZLicenseRequest and follow the prompts, I'll email you back instructions.

It's certainly not simple to derive these routines, particularly if you want to do it in native GH with minimal scripting.

Cheers,

Jon

hello jon, sorry for bother u, but Im working on this because is for my project of the U. I was looking how to figure out the problem which I have and I made this so if u want to have a look and give some tips and advices. please.

I have her the geometry and how I was doing to packing it. I saw that I need a grid to put them on it.

Thanks and sorry again to bother u.
