algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi everyone, 

I am new in gismo and I have some difficulties understanding how to start. For example after finding my location on openstreetmaps and exporting it, how do I connect it to gismo? I have tried the address to location component and it worked. But if my input is a plot with no address how do I extract the information about location latidute longitude from the osm file? Are there any videos or tutorials to show how it's done?

Hello you can try the following

visit the place you want in google maps. center the area of interest and copy the the two values as in screenshot. these are your long and lat values you need for gismo.

djordje i' ve been using gismo a bit, but my schedule is very tight the last months. i wanted to give feedback or suggestions but never got a chance really.

it is very quick to assemble terrain, 3d files and get info. you have done a great plugin.

do you think a get browser address string could make the area selection through browser? with a boolean toggle, while having the browser parked to the area of interest. or something similar that gives visual feedback where you are. I understand that issues such as which browser etc could arise, with the browser suggestion.

I understand perfectly. No problem!

So the user would find the location it wants on Google Maps/Openstreetmap and then it will switch manually from web browser to Grasshopper window, click a boolean toggle, and this will copy the address link from the web browser to Gismo component and extract the latitude/longitude information from it, along with radius.

Or did I misunderstand you?

yes, correct.

maybe there is a better way, i cannot think of (perhaps one that does not need the browser), but the key point is to have visual feedback, map view, of what area you want gismo to load.

I do now know how to automatically copy the address link from some web browser. But if users are willing to invest few seconds to copy paste this link into some Gismo component's input, then we can make it work. At least I have an idea how it would work with openstreetmap.org. I haven't googled to see how it can be done with google maps links.
There is one thing: Both openstreetmap.org and google maps (or any other online map service) have viewable areas in a form of a rectangle. At least this is the case until a user deliberately shrinks the web browser window's width. Gismo's viewable area is a square (thus allowing it to use the radius_ input). So what user sees in openstreetmap or googlemaps web browser window will either be shrank according to the radius of the area's height, or enlarged according to the area's width. Did I explain this badly?

i just saw the urls of openstreetmap and google maps. openstreetmaps seems pretty straightforward with coords being between slashes. Google has an @ followed by coords.

yes the main area of interest will be centered, so the link is the origin of the radius for gismo. i guess the output can be cropped as needed in gh.

Okay, but should the radius_ be extracted according to the width or height of the visible area in openstreetmap/googlemaps window? Because both represent a rectangle, while Gismo supports a square.

Thank you for the suggestion, and welcome to the forum!

Gismo has a component called: "Address to Location".
It can find a latitude and longitude of a particular location based on given address.
Attached below is a small example.

hmm, not sure. maybe radius should stay in gismo and not come from the browser. i am thinking large screens or accidental zoom outs that result in huge areas to be loaded in gismo. maybe this needs a test to see how it works.
