Grasshopper

algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hello,

i'm new here and i'm starting using Grasshopper.

I developped an origami with a simulation of his movement

As you can see in the image i need the points 1 and 2 sliding only on the Z axis and the points 3 and 4 sliding only on the Y axis. The same with the point 5 which should slide only on the X axis.

Right now each point is moving in a plane and i want to fix them on a straight line.

could you help me?

Thank you!

Hello,

Who is the author of origami.gh ? David did you write it ?

Regards

Pascal

Hello

I developed it with my professor.

Andrea

not sure if you ever solved this issue but in kangaroo there is a anchor to xyz axis component that would help you...

Dear Ethan,

I 've noticed it,

but would be you more precise ?

PAscal

sure, as i understand it this component lets you tie an anchor point to a x, y or z axis so it can move but only along that axis. so if you don't want the world x,y, or z axis you can make a line with the orientation you do want and then find a frame along that line and use the x or y or z axis from that frame...

So after playing with it more... i guess i was wrong and the component only lets you anchor to world xyz axis...  :( Now i use pull to surface forces instead. -e

This is my last version of the file. Take a look. Bye

Ethan, Andrea,

when I try to affect a mesh to Origami, Rhino answer "Mesh to reference (Mode=reference)"..

How do you manage it for giving it any meshes, lines to mesh, valley and mountain ? how do those items have to be coded ?

Regards

Pascal

I believe its asking you to pick a mesh in the rhino window. I usually create a mesh in gh with geometry that is parametric... but you can also use a rhino made mesh and reference it with a mesh component by right clicking the component and choosing to set one or multiple meshes. To select which line is a valley and which is a mountain you either have to have a method for pulling those lines from data trees like a list item or a dispatch. or sometimes to be more user interactive I use a select able preview component which you can get at food for rhino. a great plug in ...
