algorithmic modeling for Rhino

Hi dear all, 

I have started research on How to optimize size of window for a given zone. The aim of optimization is to increase daylight availability inside the zone. Simultaneously reducing the cooling and heating energy consumption.

For this reason, I have started to important a geometry form the Rhino into grasshopper as a Brep component. For getting daylight and Energy consumption data I have used DIVA as a simulation engine.

Addition to that, I want to use Galapagos as a fitness function to optimize the size of windows. However, I am new user of Galapagos I dont know how to define the fitness function for getting More daylight with less energy consumption?? any one can help me for this issue.

Do you need to use a search heuristic for this? Why not just use good old, reliable and robust mathematics?

I haven't used Diva so I'll speak in general terms... If you want to use galapagos by itself then you can  specify only one fitness to maximize or minimize. To deal with multiple fitnesses you have to create a formula that relates them and use the result as a fitness. In your case I think it would be easier to understand if you thought of minimizing the "darkness" and minimizing the energy consumption. Then you can for instance average both values (or any other formula) and then ask galapagos to minimize the result. 

Alternatively you can use Octopus to use multiple fitness values but I haven't tried it. Search for the group.
