Offsetting a undulating hemisphere inwards

Hi,

I am trying to give this deformed hemisphere geometry a thickness and I am not having any luck with the standard offset or extrude components. I have tried using the plane normals of the original hemisphere geometry but it doesn't seem to work properly. Any Ideas about how I might get this to work?

Any Help would be much appricated
