Offset curve problem

Hi, I am having troubles offseting this curve with any value larger than 4.3. The strange thing is that if I first offset the curve of 3 units and then do another offset of 3 units I have a perfectly working curve with 6 units offset, but not if I apply a 6 units offset to the original curve. Any help really appreciated!

from what i understand offset is quite problematic...
